Acne
– Called in Ayurveda as Yavana Pidika
Acne
affects about 85 percent of the population at some time in their
life. Most teenagers get the type of acne called acne vulgaris,
which can appear on the face, neck, shoulders, back and chest.
Most
doctors and dermatologists say that acne is not related to diet,
but Ayurveda belives in a strong relation of it with diet. Acne
patients should essentially be prescribed a diet free from grains.
Wht
is the benefit of a no grain diet in acne?
Use
of refined carbohydrates and sugar leads to a surge of insulin and
an insulin-like growth factor called IGF-1 in your body leading
to an excess of male hormones, which cause pores in the skin to
secrete sebum. This attracts acne-promoting bacteria. Also IGF-1
causes skin cells known as keratinocytes to multiply which is a
process associated with acne.
Limiting
grains is an integral step toward optimizing your health. The more
we study the influence of grains, and their secondary consequences
on insulin, the more we will find that their pervasive influences
touch nearly every aspect of our health.
Diet
– Food and fruits – Do’s and don’ts
Citrus
fruits, bananas, dried, stewed or tinned fruits should not be taken.
Unsweetened lemon or plain water, either hot or cold, should be
drunk.
Measures
should be adopted to eradicate constipation.
Emphasis
should be on raw foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables,
sprouted seeds, raw nuts and whole grain cereals, especially millet
and brown rice.
Starchy,
protein and fatty foods, should be restricted. Meats, sugar, strong
tea or coffee, condiments, pickles, refined and processed foods
should be avoided, as also soft drinks, candies, ice cream and products
made with sugar and white flour.
Apart
from this Acne is help prevented by yoga and a proper personal hygiene.
